Enterprise configuration and deployment
This article gives an overview how Gmail Notifier Pro is storing user configuration and how to deploy
Gmail Notifier Pro to many users in an organization.
The free version of Gmail Notifier Pro is for personal use only, and is not allowed to be used by
companies and organizations. If you need a license for more than 6 users, please contact
for site license discount.
Unless Gmail Notifier Pro is configured to run in portable mode, all user settings and user data will be stored
in the user roaming folder and the log file will be stored in the user local folder. The user settings
include all settings made in Gmail Notifier Pro, including all configured accounts. The user data includes downloaded
IMAP messages and attachments.
Note that before version 4.5 of Gmail Notifier Pro, the user local folder was used for all
user settings and user data as well. If Gmail Notifier Pro version 4.5 or later detect settings in the user local
folder, these settings will be used and they will not be moved to the roaming folder. For new installation on
version 4.5 or later, where no settings are available in the user local folder, the roaming folder will be used.
Gmail Notifier Pro writes log information to GmailNotifierPro.log in the user local folder. The purpose of the
log file is to help tracking down any issues found in the software. The log level can be changed in the Options
dialog of Gmail Notifier Pro, in the Administration section.
Typical user roaming folder location on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8:
C:\Users\<Windows User Name>\AppData\Roaming\GmailNotifierPro\
Typical user roaming folder location on Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows User Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\GmailNotifierPro\
Typical user local folder location on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8:
C:\Users\<Windows User Name>\AppData\Local\GmailNotifierPro\
<Windows User Name>
refers to the name of the Windows account being used.
Gmail Notifier Pro can be pre-configured by placing a configuration file, named Template.xml, in the
folder where Gmail Notifier Pro is installed. When Gmail Notifier Pro is launched the first time for a user,
there is no ConfigData.xml file present in the user roaming folder. If the file Template.xml exist in the folder
where Gmail Notifier Pro is installed, the settings in this file will be used to construct a new ConfigData.xml
for the user.
The file ConfigData.xml can be copied to the folder where Gmail Notifier Pro is installed and renamed to
Template.xml to make it the configuration template for all users.
If GmailNotifierPro.msi is deployed to many computers, the file Template.xml must also be deployed to the same
installation folder. If no existing infrastucture is present for deploying Template.xml together with
Gmail Notifier Pro, the Gmail Notifier Pro Deployment tool can be used.

The Deployment Tool requires a GmailNotifierPro.msi file to modify. An existing ConfigData.xml can be specified,
and it will be installed as Template.xml together with Gmail Notifier Pro. The Deployment Tool will generate an
updated MSI-file where the configuration template is included. The updated MSI-file can be deployed on
all computers and every user will get the settings specified in the configuration template when they launch
Gmail Notifier Pro for the first time.
The Deployment Tool is not included in the Gmail Notifier Pro installation, and needs to be downloaded separately.
The Deployment Tool is mainly intended for organizations with, or with the intent to order, a Gmail Notifier Pro
